Ok over the last week here I’ve put in some more development effort and have updated the Dev Sneak Peek to version 1.1!
I’ve completed all of the tables in the database and have loaded the rest of the test data for the issues. Granted this is just test data and I cannot go live with it, but here are the stats…
- publishers – 100
- series (aka titles) – 20,401
- issues – 271,797
New functionality includes when you select a Title from the Series List on the left, the Series info is displayed on the top right and the list of issues for the selected Title is displayed on the lower right.
So what you ask? Good question… This screen represents what the main maintenance access screen will look like. You will come to this screen when you want to add a new issue or edit an existing one. I’ve still got to do some fine tuning of the Issue list, like formatting the columns, for example displaying the cover price as $2.95… There’s some other tweeking that I’d like to do to.
So try it out and leave a comment to this post to tell me what you think!

Most Excellent sir! I’ve been trying several different ways to gather this information. I’ve been using different strategies for databasing my comics for years, but recently started using the UPC code. It’s a little trickier than I’d hoped but your solution makes it look pretty easy. Is your series ID number a random number or is it generated from something? I’ve been breaking down the UPC codes and using the parts (ie first six as CompanyID) to link tables together.
GalaxyKing, thanks for the kind words…
Well, keep checking back here at the blog for updates… I’ve just pushed out dev sneak peek ver 1.2 – this will give you an idea of where I’m headed with the data maintenance portion of the web site, which seams like where the most development effort is.
I’ve tried several different comic book cataloging software packages none of which have been very satisfactory. Either they fall down in their User Interface, their ability to load series & issues or general usefulness after you get the data loaded.
